Blog 4: The most inspiring story!

My first words to you: don’t hesitate to do what you don’t know.
In this blog, I will introduce you to my personal inspiring story with studying English Linguistics. And how my English language skills have been changed before and after my journey in Qatar University.

Life is a long experience with long-term expectations. These expectations will become true at an unexpected moment. As a non-native speaker of English, I would like to share my journey with the English language. I have experienced such an inspiring and uplifting university journey full of success. During this journey, I have faced many awesome people who encouraged me to continue hard working. However, I was having terrible English before starting this journey.

Before the university journey:

When I was in grade 4 it was my first time hearing about the English language. I just have started with learning ABC while other students were studying sentence structures. After that, I have moved to a public school where Math and Science subjects were tough in English. I was not able to understand anything, and I got bad grades. When it was time to choose my major in university, my mom encouraged me to study English.

During the university journey:

The first steps in that journey were very hard. I was not qualified enough to understand everything doctors were explaining. Thus, I worked very hard and I did my best, but my grades were terrible. I took B on my first linguistics course and C+ on my first reading course. I felt very depressed. After that, I meet many amazing people who believed in my skills and abilities. One of those gorgeous people is my linguistics professor. He taught me 5 linguistics courses and I took an A on all of them. One time I was on the verge of losing the A grade. I went to his office and he told me the most inspiring words which I cannot forget "You can do it, I believe in you".  Can you imagine how these words can affect you? After that, I worked so hard and I did my best on my final research, and I got an A! unbelievable!
I heard many criticisms alongside these encouraging phrases. One time a first-year student told me: You have been studying English in the last four years! I was speechless. How people can be that fairless and illiterate? My hard work was the positive power I could give to myself to be more powerful and strong. I became sad by her words for just a few seconds, but then I used them as a magical power to become an outstanding student. How good you are in any major is detected by the appreciated work you have done.

A Lesson I have learned after this journey:

Learning a language is a golden key to good communication. The more languages you speak, the more shining communicator you are. language is not only a communication skill. It is also a reflection of how your brain works. Studying English Linguistics provided me with some secrets about the English language which made me fill in love with English. Beside I improved my English skills, I am now appreciating languages more. Also, I am aware of some useful teaching techniques and methods teachers should use while teaching any language.

I would like to suggest for you this website to read more inspiring linguists' stories.
